Howdy-ho! My name is Raul Quiroz, and I am the Senior Account Executive at HJ-PR. A little bit about me! I was born and raised in sunny Mexico, even though I lived by the beach my whole life, I’m not a beach person (shocker!). I prefer the term “collector” to “hoarder”, I’m an excellent plus one and I’m extremely judgemental… when it comes to pop music. Otherwise, I’m pretty laid back. When I’m not on a red carpet with a client or sending pitch emails, you can often find me riding my Heelys inside my local Walmart or taking hundreds of selfies at the gym (who works out at the gym nowadays? Ew…)
I have a degree in International Business and I also studied abroad for a full year to specialize in marketing and communications. I got to live in Portugal – the land of Cristiano Ronaldo, pasteis de nata and codfish – for 12 months and I have to say that that whole experience changed my life forever. I got to meet amazing people from different cultures and travel around. I was a backpacker for three months, I got to visit more than 20 different cities and I would always try to order the weirdest thing from the McDonald’s menu in each country I visited.
Here are some fun fill-in-the-blank questions:
In another life, I’m pretty sure I was a paleontologist, I’ve always been interested in dinosaurs. I have watched ‘Jurassic Park’ over 1,000 times.
If I won the lottery tomorrow, I’d use the money to invest it in NFTs! Just kidding, I’d create a charity to support domestic violence victims.
The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is to never let anyone treat you like yellow starburst, you are pink starburst! (Paris Hilton, 2017)
If I could invent a holiday, it would definitely involve chinese food, SPOILER ALERT: I don’t know how to use chopsticks, sorry mom.
What advice would you give a candidate who wants to join our team of superstars? Do not apply… if you don’t like puppies. Everyone is always sharing pictures of their furry friends and it’s the most adorable thing ever!
If I weren’t so damn good at my job, I’d probably be a car designer, when I was little I used to draw cars all the time. I always dreamt of working for BMW or Mercedes Benz.
Cats or dogs? Both, I wasn’t a cat person until I met Fernando and Holly’s cat Pancho, he stole my heart!
My favorite word in the English language is “sliving”. Created by pop culture icon Paris Hilton, sliving is a blend of two words – slaying and living (your best life). A person is sliving when they are glamorously successful, self-empowered, and fulfilled.
What’s the most inspiring part of your job? Working with amazing people and clients! Every day is different, one day you are writing a press release, the next day you are presenting a win to a client. It’s super fun and exciting!
The most important thing I learned before high school was stop focusing on your grades and go meet people! Making good connections will help you land your dream job faster than having an A+. And also, don’t be afraid to take risks!
If I were a superhero, my superpower would be to teletransport. The thing that I don’t like about traveling is having to sit down and wait. I’m very impatient but I’m getting better at it.
When I was 5, I was pretty sure I’d be a TV host. I really thought I was meant to be the next David Letterman.
If you were a pasta shape, what shape would you be and why? I’d be a spaghetti because it’s iconic.
